Ammonia
Ammonia is a compound consisting of elements of nitrogen and hydrogen and is known to have a characteristic pungent odor. Ammonia can occur naturally or be produced synthetically. Ammonia found in nature (in the atmosphere) comes from the decomposition of organic matter. Ammonia is rarely inhaled in large amounts because the pungent smell will make people avoid it.
In industry it is used in various fields such as:
1. Ammonia is commonly used as an ingredient in medicines.
2. Ammonia dissolved in water can be used to clean various household appliances.
3. This substance is also used as a fertilizer-making mixture to provide nitrogen for plants. However caution is needed because high concentrations of ammonia can be very dangerous if inhaled, swallowed, or touched.
